2017 OSDU Junior Provincial Championship

Dear Debaters, Coaches and Judges,

On behalf of the Ontario Student Debating Union, we are pleased to invite you to the 2017 OSDU Junior Provincial Championships, to be held at St. Michael’s College School on Saturday March 4, 2017.

The OSDU Junior Provincial Championships is the qualifier for the Junior National Debating Championships to be held in Vancouver, BC at the end of April.

The prepared resolution for this tournament is:

THW provide free post-secondary education for all students in Canada.

Each participating school is expected to bring at least one judge.

Teams:
Each school may send two teams of two debaters. Students must be in grades 7, 8 or 9.

Judges:
Coaches will be expected to judge at this tournament. Experienced senior debaters (grade 12) are welcome as additional judges.

Resolution:

THW provide free post-secondary education for all students in Canada.

Style:
All five rounds will be in Canadian National Debate Format. Two rounds will be on the prepared topic and three rounds will be on impromptu topics.

Speaking Times: 
6 minutes constructive; 3 minutes for 1st Opp and 1st Prop summaries.

Registration:
Please register your teams (with payment) by Friday, January 27, 2017. Registration will be on a first come‐first serve basis to fill our 50 team cap.

Fees:
$80 per two-‐person team. Cheques should be payable to “Ontario Student Debating Union.” Lunch and snacks are provided.

Lodging:
Coaches are responsible for arranging accommodations for themselves and their teams.

Debaters are expected to be at the tournament throughout the event.
