OSDU has received the following information regarding an upcoming non-OSDU event for debaters:
"Olympiads Open Tournament
The tournament will offer all high school debaters the opportunity to partake in one of the last tournaments of the 2015-2016 season. The Olympiads Open Tournament allows debaters of all skill levels to exercise their skill as well as passion for debating.

There is currently no school cap but schools are encouraged to fill out the online registration form as well as email the tournament directors all the teams they would like to send at the email address below no later than Friday, May 21st. The number of teams each school can send will be confirmed shortly after the deadline. We will try to accommodate as many requested teams as possible.

Each school must bring one judge for every four teams. Judges may be teachers, administrators, debate coaches, or experienced/ graduated debaters. Our aim is to provide panel judging in as many rounds as possible. It is preferable that parents of debaters who do not have prior judging experience act as spectators instead of adjudicators to
To register, please make sure that your school fills out only one registration form.
You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of submitting the registration form. We recommend schools to send their registration information through email as soon as possible to reserve a spot in the tournament.
There will be a tournament cap of 56 teams. The tournament spots will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis; schools are advised to register before the registration deadline. Schools will be contacted during the week of May 16th regarding more available spots. All registered participants will be provided with breakfast and lunch on the day of the tournament. Prizes will be awarded for the top debating teams and the top ranked individuals.
There will not be a junior bracket at this tournament.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT (e.g. CDNF, BP, CP, etc.):
The tournament will consist of four rounds of British Parliamentary Style debate. The top four teams will progress to an additional finalist round.

The Olympiads Open Tournament will not have a prepared resolution. Teams will receive the resolution and their position 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the round in order to prepare their arguments. The resolutions will be accessible to debaters of varying grades and skill levels. Topics are to be on substantive issues. All rounds will be given straight resolutions. No squirrelling is permitted.
Jeffrey Li, Heather Wong, Selina Li, and Ethan Curry are this year’s Chief Adjudicators. The judges all have extensive training and experience on a regional, provincial, and national level. Jeffrey Li , a seasoned debater, and his partner, Heather Wong, were finalists at the Oxford Schools Tournament. Selina Li earned top speaker at ICYD and Ethan Curry, an exceptional speaker, achieved 4th speaker overall at Hart House.
Breakfast and lunch will be served on Sunday. Beverages will also be available throughout the tournament. Any dietary restrictions should be noted on the online registration form.
