Ontario Qualifier for National Senior Public Speaking Championships
OSDU Members, Coaches and Students,
The OSDU Board has received information about the following NON-OSDU EVENT debating opportunity that it wishes to bring to your attention:
It is our pleasure to invite you to the Ontario Qualifier for the National Senior Public Speaking Championships which are being held at The Country Day School on Tuesday, November 21st, 2017.
The Competition will be comprised of four different events, and students must compete in all four of the following:
- Parliamentary Debating (Impromptu)
- Interpretive Reading (Prepared)
- Impromptu Speaking
- Persuasive Speaking (Prepared)
The Top 8 students at this event will be selected to attend the National Senior Public Speaking Championships to be at St. John’s Ravenscourt School in Winnipeg, Manitoba in early 2018. Students will be expected to fund their own trip to the Winnipeg tournament. A maximum of two students may be selected from each school.
Your school is invited to send up to four students. The tournament is capped at 60 students and space will be allocated on a first-come/first-served basis. The cost per student is $40, and this registration fee will cover the cost of snacks, dinner, and awards.
Only students representing their own Ontario school may register, and they must be accompanied by an adult school-sanctioned chaperone/coach. Coaches/chaperones will be expected to judge.
For every two students they bring, schools must also bring an additional adult judge. High school students may NOT judge this event. If schools are unable to fulfill this commitment, they will not be allowed to participate in the event. This is to ensure that we have sufficient judges from a wide judging pool, to ensure fairness to all students.
The registration form, the schedule for the day, event rules, and sample score sheets are included with this invitation and will be available on the CDS website, on the Fulford web-site and the OSDU website by the end of next week.
If you are interested in attending this event, please complete the attached registration form and return it to me by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org, as soon as possible to register your school’s commitment to attend. Cheques should be made payable to The Country Day School.
Once the cap of 60 competitors has been reached, no further registration will be possible, although we will operate a waitlist. The deadline for submitting competitors’ names: is Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
